Fall is on its way out and winter is upon us. Unfortunately, this seems to also bring illness and increased absence from school. Please remind children to wash their hands frequently, keep their hands out of their mouth, and not share food and drinks with friends (this is a major source of spreading germs). Children need lots of rest and good nutrition to keep them healthy and their immunity up to fight off illness.
With the cooler temperatures please make sure to send the appropriate outer wear (hats, gloves, mittens) to school with your children for playing outside at recess. If students do not have the appropriate outer wear they may have to stay in from recess.
Medications: If your child needs to start taking a medication at school please contact me prior to the start date. There is paperwork that has to be filled out prior to dispensing medication at school. Please DO NOT send medication to school with a student and a note to give it. I will not dispense prescription medication without a doctor's order. All prescription medication needs to be brought to the school by a parent or guardian, not sent in with the student. If a student needs over the counter medication, I still need to speak with a parent/guardian and fill out appropriate paperwork. Not contacting me prior to the student needing the medication may cause a delay in receiving it.
Medication Forms: Students who need to take mediation at school will need to have a form signed by a parent/guardian. Prescription medication has to have a form signed by a physician. I have attached the forms below.OTC Med Form Physician Med Form Prescription Med Form
Lice: Lice is always an ongoing issue in schools. If your child has lice or gets lice we ask that you take care of it immediately. Any student that has live bugs in their hair will be sent home immediately and needs to be brought in by a parent to be checked by the nurse prior to returning to their classroom. Students that have nits (lice eggs) may also be sent home, RULH has a no nit policy and will enforce no nits prior to return as well.
I am always happy to talk with parents regarding students and their health care. Please call me with any questions or concerns you may have regarding your child. I am also willing to set up times after school or at parent/teacher conferences to meet with parents if the need arises.
Please make sure your child gets lots of rest through the week and eats well balanced meals. This can directly affect their performance here at school and how they perform. As always, please let me know if you have any questions.
