RULH Global Food students recently studied the process and techniques of food preservation. Students learned that food preservation increases shelf life, makes seasonal foods available year-round, increases variety in the diet, stabilizes prices and food shortages, decreases waste from spoilage, and improves nutrition. Home canning also reduces carbon footprints and creates a more sustainable environment. During the lesson, students made jerky through the drying and dehydration process and prepared strawberry Jam using the canning process.

In a world that revolves around credit, the concept of interest, loans, and paying on time are crucial information for teens to understand. RULH High School students in Mrs. Raus’ Personal Financial Management class created board games on the topic using vocabulary and concepts they had been taught. Through this activity, students learned that a credit card isn’t free money; the process of filling out a credit card application and checking their credit history and credit score; closing a credit card account; and a vast array of credit terminology. These valuable life tools are part of RULH High School's commitment to the future personal and financial success of young adults in our community.

Some of you may have heard this month being referred to as “No Shave November”. In honor of this occasion, Mr. Doug Bowery and Mr. Chris Young are going to grow their hair out to raise money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. The RULH High School Class (9-12) that raises the most money will have names chosen at random to shave the heads and faces of both men during the HS Girls and Boys Basketball games on Saturday, December 2nd. Periodic updates of the regrowing process will be posted on the RULH High School Facebook Page(@RULHHs). Watch them grow for a great cause!

RULH Middle School students that achieved the goals of “AAA” for the first nine weeks were recently rewarded with a trip to a Cincinnati Cyclones hockey game. There were 80 students and nine staff members that took part, and for many of the participants, this was the first time they had ever been to a hockey game. The field trip was part of a Cyclones “Field Trip Day” and the RULH contingent joined other students from the area. Congratulations to all the students that earned this honor, and we look forward to taking even more students on the next trip.
