The varsity Jays hosted the Glenwood New Boston Tigers last night in Blue Jay Stadium under the lights. The match ended in a 1-1 tie. The Jays continued to play a strong defensive and midfield game, but struggled to finish on open shots and score goals. Sophomore goalkeeper John Perraut had an outstanding night protecting the net for the Jays, racking up 8 very impressive and sometimes outright miraculous saves to keep the game tight.
It was Glenwood that struck first on an attack that ended just out of reach of the Ripley keeper. Shortly after, Sophomore Myles Siegel scored the Jays lone goal after breaking through the defense and going one-on-one with Glenwood’s keeper to find the back of the net and tie the game at 1 each. Another attack by Siegel looked to be very promising, but an unlucky bounce in front the Tiger goal caused his ensuing shot to sail high and over the crossbar. Another attack was very close to giving the Jays a go-ahead goal when a header from Sophomore Hunter Scott off a long throw-in from Junior Jordan Fulton from the sidelines missed the mark just a bit high, this time hitting the crossbar but going over. The tie put the Jays record at 2-3-1 on the season. Junior defensive back Cash Bolar, along with Senior defenders Gavin Worthington and Jase Lang all played stellar games for the Jays.
Ripley will be back on their home field again Monday evening in a match against Western Latham in Blue Jay Stadium at 5:30.
