Brown Named RULH Teacher of the Year

Mrs. Jenny Brown is the 2020 RULH Teacher of the Year! Mrs. Brown will be a candidate for Brown County Teacher of the Year when that award is announced in October.

Mrs. Brown began her teaching career in 2004 at RULH Elementary, taught at Adams County Ohio Valley for 9 years then returned home to RULH in 2015. In addition to her classroom responsibilities, Mrs. Brown is also the RULH Elementary musical director. She enjoys helping students learn to play the recorders, watching their faces light up when they understand a musical concept, and giving them standing ovations for stellar performances. Mrs. Brown states, “I am blessed to be their teacher.”

Mrs. Brown graduated with her Bachelor of Music Education from Morehead State University in 2003. She then worked to complete her Master of Arts in Elementary Education from the University of the Cumberlands. She also maintains an active membership with the Ohio Music Education Association.

During her time at RULH, Mrs. Brown has been a part of the RULH Elementary Sunshine Committee, who work together to support the social-emotional needs of the staff and building. One of her favorite memories from teaching happened on a cold, rainy day. “An unexpected fire alarm occurred, and we decided to take all the students under the picnic shelter, which was a very tight fit. The students were packed in like sardines. Knowing we were on the verge of chaos, I jumped up on a picnic table and started leading the students and teachers in singing Jingle Bells. The students immediately joined in and soon forgot what was happening around them. By the time we finished a repeat of Rudolph, we were heading back into the building.

In her spare time, Mrs. Brown is a Girls Scout Leader, a partner at CrossPoint Community Church and enjoys spending time with her husband Tim and her children Reese, Harper, and Paige. Mrs. Brown believes she was called to be a teacher. Her mother is a retired elementary teacher and Mrs. Brown has fond memories of helping her with school carnivals, setting up her classroom, PTO meetings, and board meetings.

Congratulations to Mrs. Jenny Brown!
