RULH Schools Recognizes Excellence in Teaching
Each year, teachers and administrators in the RULH School District select an outstanding educator to represent the district in the Teacher of the Year - Excellence in Education Award for Brown County Schools. RULH Schools selected Mrs. Debby Mitchell as our Teacher of the Year and to represent the district in the 2016 competition.

Fun, exciting, committed, dedicated, pushing the edge of knowledge, and giving our students the power to believe in themselves are just a few of the words Debby’s co-workers use to describe her and her dedication to the teaching field.

Ms. Mitchell is often described as a life-long learner – she never settles and is always researching and looking for the best way to meet her student’s needs. She started her journey in 1997 when she graduated with her Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education grades 1-8 from Northern Kentucky University. She continued her studies at Northern Kentucky University in 2004 where she completed her Master of Arts in Childhood Literacy Grades 1-8.

Ms. Mitchell began her education career with RULH in 1998 as 5th grade language arts instructor. Since that time she has played an integral role in the direction and success of our Middle School Building. She has served on both her District and Building Leadership Team where she has worked hard, looking at student data, to help determine district need and direction. She has also been a founding member of our Middle School’s Positive Behavior and Instructional Support team. This team has been instrumental in changing the climate at our school around our mission, the three A’s – Attitude, Attendance and Academics. Our PBIS team has also been recognized by the state of Ohio as a Bronze award winner and has been asked to speak about their success at different state events.

Debby’s commitment to the RULH school district and her students is summed up best by

these quotes from her colleagues:

“student centered, dedicated to 21st century skills, she is a team leader, shares her knowledge and listens to others in order to become better herself, she never waivers from wanting the best for her students and her school!”

Congratulations to Mrs. Mitchell, and thank you for your hard work and dedication to RULH Students!
