RULH High School Music Department presents "The Little Mermaid"
The RULH High School Music Department presented Disney's The Little Mermaid to a house that was packed for multiple performances the first weekend of April 2017. The Music Department went all out with staging, costuming, and a variety of special effects, including "flying" under the guidance of ZFX Flying of Louisville, KY.
Mr. Brown and his assistants, Mrs. Kahrs and Mrs. Brown did an excellent job of preparing students for their roles both as actors and vocally. A host of volunteer parents and community members put in countless hours preparing the scenery, props, special effects, and supporting the fliers.
ZFX Flying installed the special equipment used to create the flying effect (of course, in The Little Mermaid this was often presented not as flying, but rather swimming under water!). Volunteers were trained in how to use the rigging that allowed the student-actors to move through the air, and students spent hours learning how to control their movements while speaking and/or singing at the same time.
The RULH Music Department's presentation of The Little Mermaid was based on the Hans Christian Anderson story and the Disney film as produced by Howard Ashman and John Musker, and written and directed by John Musker and Ron Clements. This version was originally produced by Disney Theatrical Productions, and presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International.
